Jeff Kinney was born in 1971 in Maryland and attended the University of Maryland in the early 1990s. There he ran a comic strip called “Igdoof” in the campus newspaper and it was then that he knew that he wanted to be a cartoonist. However he wasn’t succesful in getting his comic strip published after college. In 1998, he started writing down ideas for his famous book Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which he hoped to turn into a book. Jeff worked on the book for 6 years before publishing it online at www.funbrain.com for daily installments. To date, the online version of the book had more than 70 million visits, and is usually read by more than 70,000 kids per day! In 2006, he signed a multi-book deal with publisher Harry N. Abrams to turn Diary of a Wimpy Kid into a print series. Diary of a Wimpy Kid was first realesed in April 2007 and quickly became a New York Times best seller, eventually reaching the #1 spot! Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules was realeased in January 2008 and also became a #1 best seller just like the first one did. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book came out in October 2008. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Staw came out in early January 2009 and just like the first and second books, became the #1 best selling book in the counrty! Jeff currently has a full time job the design director of a Boston-based Internet publishing company. There he created www.poptropica.com. He currently lives in Soutern Massachusetts with his wife and 2 boys.
